At the Callaway Gardens® Gun Club, you can take your pick of shooting skeet, trap, 5-stand and sporting clays.

Professionals on staff provide shooting instruction for all skill levels so whether you're a novice or seasoned professional, you'll feel welcome.

Sporting Clays

Sporting Clays is referred to as “hunters’ golf” because, instead of having tees, you have shooting stations.  Our sporting clay course is ¾ of a mile long and has 10-12 shooting stations.  The shooter steps into the shooting cage and follows a menu of targets thrown. A round of Sporting Clays consists of 100 or 50 shots.

Skeet

The targets emerge from a high house (10 feet above ground) on the left and a low house (3-1/2 feet above ground) on the right that faces one another 40 yards apart.

Legal skeet targets travel between 60 and 70 yards and pass 15 feet above a crossing stake set 21 yards from the shooting stations, which are arranged around an arc running from one house to the other.  A round of skeet consists of 25 shots, beginning with a high-house bird at station one, then a low house bird, then a double at one, two, six, and seven.

Trap

A round of trap consists of 25 shots, five each from five stations or posts in an arc beginning 16 yards behind the trap house. After five shots at one station, you move to the next station.

5 Stand

Five-Stand is fired from five separate shooting stations. Shooters fire in sequence, from station 1 to station 5. After each has fired, the shooters will rotate to the next station.
Each shooting station has a unique combination of which targets are thrown, as indicated by a shooting menu, which is located at each station. Progressing from station to station, the shooter is exposed to different targets at different angles, making the game quite challenging.
