The great horned owl is the largest owl species found in North America. It lives anywhere from northern Canada to the Andes of Equador, and all across the United States.
The great horned owl has a wingspan of almost six feet. It is the heaviest and most powerful American owl with color ranging from very dark to tan.

Great horned owls are nocturnal and prey on animals as large as skunks but prefer rabbits, rats and mice. They are remarkably adaptable, living in a variety of habitats and nesting in trees, caves or on the ground.
